It was only scheduled for a single showing that day and sold two tickets. The night MOVIEGUIDE(r) reviewed it, the cashier didn’t even know it was playing. SLOW BURN will burn quickly through the theater circuit and wind up on DVD. While Cole comes across as someone you can’t buy, he did fall for the “free” sex offered by Nora and wound up in a position to be blackmailed. It’s sad to see how many characters in this movie are willing to sell their soul for a few dollars. The Bible says, “The wages of sin is death,” and a number of characters in the movie pay the wages. He is disappointed to learn that Nora appears to be having sex with anyone who can help her become rich. While Cole comes across as an honest man trying to clean up crime, he is clearly guilty having an affair with Nora. Were it not for a few strong profanities and some illicit sex (with nudity) in flashback scenes, this would have passed for a typical television thriller. As the night wears on, the story twists and turns and flips and flops until one begins to wonder if their own mother is guilty. Cole goes back and forth trying to get to the truth. To Cole’s dismay, a man named Luther (James Todd Smith) shows up at the police station claiming Nora is a murderer and crook working for the city’s lead gangster. SLOW BURN is the story of one very strange night in the life of District Attorney Ford Cole (Ray Liotta). This movie was filmed in 2003 but not released until this year - four years later! Maybe they knew it was a turkey.SLOW BURN is the story of a strange night in the life of District Attorney Ford Cole (played by Ray Liotta). I found it un-involving, and when you don't care about the characters, then you don't care who's innocent or guilty and the film loses all effectiveness. Movies that revolve around the big question "Did he/she kill the person or not" are either extremely interesting and involving or the opposite. A convoluted movie is just that, and not fun to watch no matter what any viewer's IQ might be. In fact, it was stupid because it committed the ultimate sin for making a movie - it bored the hell out of its audience, and an audience that includes some "smart people" who can figure things out. I'll put it in simple terms: this film was not as "smart" and "clever" as it thought it was. I am so glad it wasn't just me, that the first review I see here - Mermaidbronze - felt the same way I did. This wore out its welcome about 40 minutes into the movie and after the halfway point, about 10 minutes later, I totally didn't care if our girl here was innocent or guilty. ![]()
